2010 Busan Cup Women’s International Match Race - Day Three

Day three at the 2010 Busan Cup Women’s International Match Race again saw big breeze, big wind shifts, and exciting racing for the twelve teams competing. The final flights of the round robin were completed in 25 knots of breeze to set up the pairings for the Quarter-Final knock-out series for the top 8 teams. There were a couple of upsets in the quarters, with the #7 from the round robin, Stephanie Hazard (NZL) defeating #2 Sally Barkow (USA) and #5 Katie Spithill (AUS) defeating #4 Camilla Ulrikkeholm (DEN). The other quarter-final winners were Claire Leroy (FRA) (undefeated through the round robin and quarters) and defending champion Lucy Macgregor (GBR).

Quarter-Final Results:
Leroy (FRA) defeated Monina (ITA) 2 - 0
Hazard (NZL) defeated Barkow (USA) 2 - 0
Macgregor (GBR) defeated Kutovaya (RUS) 2 - 0
Spithill (AUS) defeated Ulrikkeholm (DEN) 2 - 1

By virtue of winning the Round Robin, Claire Leroy (FRA) will be given the opportunity to choose her opponent in the Semi-Finals tomorrow.

The plan for tomorrow is to sail the Semi-Finals and 5th to 8th placings. If time permits, the 9th to 12 placings will be sailed. The forecast is for big breeze again.
