Favoritos começam bem no Sul-Americano de Match Race

O Camponato Sul-Americano de Match Race iniciou nesta sexta-feira no Veleiros do Sul, em Porto Alegre. A ausência de tripulações dos países vizinhos na competição deixou restrita ao Brasil. No entanto estão presentes em Porto Alegre os timoneiros brasileiros melhores classificados do ranking internacional e suas respectivas equipes.

A primeira fase do round robin começou pela manhã com os confrontos entre as oito equipes ( masculino e feminino) que correm todos na divisão Open. As regatas entre as tripulações de mulheres serão computadas para o título da divisão feminina.

Os mais experientes tiveram um bom começo, como era de se esperar. O comandante Henrique Haddad (RJ) que no início deste mês ficou com o vice-campeonato do Mumbai International Match Race, disputado na Índia, venceu todas as cinco regatas que ele disputou neste primeiro dia. Entre as mulheres Juliana Mota (RJ), que pertence a equipe de vela olímpica brasileira de 2010, foi a melhor na divisão Open com quatro vitórias e uma derrota, mas está empatada com Juliana Senfft, ambas com dois pontos, na divisão feminina.
O Campeonato Sul-Americano, com o patrocínio da Transpetro, prossegue neste sábado com a segunda fase do round robin a partir das 11 horas.

Favourites begin well in South American Match Race Championship

The Camponato South American Match Race began on Friday in Veleiros do Sul, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The lack of crews from neighboring countries left in the competition is restricted to Brazil. However they are present in Porto Alegre Brazil top ranked skippers of international ranking and their respective teams.

The first phase of round robin started the morning with the conflict between the eight teams (male and female) that all run in Open division. The races between the crews of women will be computed for the title of the women’s division.

The more experienced had a good start, as was expected. The commander Henrique Haddad (RJ) who earlier this month was the vice-championship of the Mumbai International Match Race, held in India, won all five races he competed in this first day. Among women Juliana Mota (RJ), which belongs to the Brazilian Olympic sailing team in 2010, was the best in the Open division with four wins and one defeat, but is tied with Juliana Senfft, both with two points in the women’s division.

The South American Championship, sponsored by Transpetro, continues Saturday with the second phase of round robin starting at 11 hours.
